Are smart speakers shiny new things? Are they something to adopt because they're new and exciting but probably won't stay around? Here's the definitive answer: it depends. It depends on what you mean by smart speaker. If you mean the physical Google Home, or Echo Show, or Apple Home-pod, then yes, they probably are shiny new things. After all, Alexa is now in refrigerators and Google Home is showing up in cars. Bose and Sony are embedding Alexa in their products. Pretty soon we won't need a dedicated smart speaker.

So, I was planning to share with you new cool places you can find Alexa, like in Sonos speakers, and Bose headphones. Or which large business have just adopted Alexa, like BMW, Dunkin Donuts, or St. Luis University.  But then I got into the information coming from Amazon's Key Note Address at IFA, which is a huge consumer electronics trade show happening in Berlin right now.  The things Amazon is sharing is way more exciting and impressive than individual examples. You will love this!

Voice is changing how we search. Google says that 20% of mobile searches are done by voice. And 40% of adults say they use voice search at least once a day. Forecasters expect that by 2020, 50% of all searches will be done through voice. Why are so many searches changing from text to voice? The simple answer is that it is easier and faster.  And this begs the question, is voice changing how we search?

What is the latest forecast of smart speaker adoption? Who uses them? Why should you care? If you write a blog or produce a podcast, you should care a whole lot, and here's why. According to Canalysis from May of this year, 100 million smart speakers will be adopted by the end of this year.  But still, why should you care?
